STORY & SCRIPT
The Art Of
Writing
Every epic begins with a blank page. At Sagar World, writing isn’t a step in the process – it is the process. Before a camera rolls, every frame is first lived on the page.
STEP 01
Foundation
Ideas arrive constantly – from scripture, from history, from a single image that refuses to leave the mind. Our first act is ruthless selection.
01

Ideation

Not every idea earns its story. We ask one question of every concept: does this deserve a cinematic life? Only the ideas that answer with a resounding yes move forward. We look for cultural resonance, dramatic richness, and contemporary urgency. Concepts that merely retell are set aside; only those that reveal something new earn a room.

02

Writer's Room

One writer opens a door. A room builds the world. Our writer's rooms assemble 3–6 voices - historians, dramaturgs, screenwriters - around a single table. No idea is too radical; no tradition is ignored. This collision of perspectives is where tone is found, scale is decided, and the thematic spine of the whole project is forged. For epic source material, we identify the one core event — a union, a rebellion, a turning point — that anchors the narrative. Every surrounding episode grows outward from that root.

STEP 02
Development
Fact is the skeleton upon which imagination is draped – and we build that skeleton with care.
01

Research & Development

Truth is the most powerful story device we have. Before a single scene is written, our R&D team descends into archives, paintings, oral histories, lost manuscripts, and comparative scholarship. Every deliberate deviation from received narratives is recorded in a dedicated file we call The Lakshman Rekha - a living document of creative choices, their sources, and the reasoning behind them. Adaptation without accountability is not our way.

02

Story

The architecture of feeling. A story isn't a sequence of events - it's a designed emotional journey. We weave factual bedrock with imaginative beats to create narratives that surprise, honour their sources, and carry the propulsive momentum of modern cinema. We hunt for the frame that only we can find: a layered narrator, a shifted perspective, a structural inversion that makes a familiar myth feel lived for the very first time.

STEP 03
Blueprint
Character work is where the story becomes human, and the show bible is its constitution.
01

Characters

Audiences don't follow plots — they follow people. We map every major arc, classify every turning point, and assign a clear Point of View to the protagonist - or, in ensemble epics like the Ramayana or Mahabharata, to multiple co-protagonists whose paths illuminate each other. Each character's choices, inner logic, and language are calibrated so they propel the plot forward while inviting the deepest possible audience identification.

02

Show Bible

The world before the world is built. The show bible is the project's constitution. It contains everything the production needs to remain coherent across months of shooting: character trees, family relationships, key set-pieces, the aesthetic palette, recurring symbols, and the rules that govern the story world. A reader who finishes the bible should be able to close their eyes and see the show — its textures, its silences, its visual vocabulary - before a single frame is shot.

STEP 04
Execution
The screenplay is the bridge between imagination and camera, carrying words that hold the weight of centuries.
01

Screenplay

Where story becomes action, beat by beat. We write scene by scene — specifying objectives, beats, subtext, and transitions — so that the narrative moves inevitably from Setup through Confrontation to Resolution. Linear or non-linear, the structure is always deliberate. Good scripts balance the unpredictable with the inevitable, and always leave breathing room for performance and the camera's own poetry.

02

Dialogues & Final Script

Words that carry the weight of centuries. In mythological and historical drama, dialogue is never just conversation - it is inheritance. Our dialogue writers blend Hindi, Sanskritic registers, regional idiom, and contemporary speech so each line rings both authentic and alive. A courtier speaks like a courtier. A rebel speaks like a rebel. Voice is character. The final script delivers action, dialogue, and sourced context in a single production-ready document — accompanied by annotated research notes, continuity guides, and the Lakshman Rekha file, so every creative choice is transparent from page to screen.
